Program Structure
The Electrical Training Alliance of South Florida (ETASF) is a partnership between IBEW and NECA. Its apprenticeship combines paid work and hands-on experience with classes leading to journeyman wireman, and no previous electrical experience is required. The program lists two offices: Miami, at 1601 NW 17th Avenue, and Fort Myers, at 17221 Alico Center Road, Suite 1. The sponsor's flyer describes approximately four years of paid on-the-job training and classroom instruction, including 8,000 hours of on-the-job training. The aptitude test is given at the training location.
Requirements
You must be at least 18 and have a high school or college diploma, a valid driver's license and your own transportation. Provide high school or college transcripts showing a passing grade in algebra. If you did not take or pass algebra, you must enroll in the Electrical Training Alliance online Tech Math course and provide documentation once you complete it. School records from another country must be verified through the contact named on the sponsor's page. Required documents are your transcripts, diploma, birth certificate (translated if it is not in English), Social Security card, driver's license, work authorization and DD-214 where applicable, and a photo.
Application Process
Applications are accepted year-round. Before you start, create an online account; approval may take 24 to 48 hours. To be considered for the Fall class, your application must be fully complete by March 1 of each year; applications completed later are reviewed for the following year's class. The sponsor's flyer gives March 1, 2027 as the deadline for the 2027–2028 class. Submit every required document within 30 days of the original application date, by uploading clear photos in the online portal, by mail, or in person with an appointment, or the application is archived and you may have to reapply. The NJATC Apprentice Selection Test Battery takes about two and a half hours, covers algebra and reading comprehension, and results usually arrive within two business days. A passing score leads to an interview with the JATC Committee. Qualified applicants then join a ranking list and stay eligible for one year from their interview date, and final acceptance is decided by the end of July each year.
What You Earn
The sponsor's flyer advertises tuition-free training with no student debt, insurance, and retirement and pension benefits. Its pay figures conflict: it states a starting pay of $21.49 an hour, while its pay table gives an approximate first-year pay of $22.66 an hour, with rates subject to change. Neither figure carries an effective date, so ask for the current wage schedule and benefit eligibility. The page does not list application fees, books or tool costs.
