Program Structure

The Electrical Training Alliance of Central Florida, also called Central Florida Electrical JATC, offers a four-year Inside Wireman apprenticeship. Training combines at least 8,000 on-the-job hours with 720 hours of related instruction. The IBEW/NECA model links employer work with classroom and laboratory learning at 2738 Forsyth Road in Winter Park.

Apprentices work full time during the week and attend class one day every other week, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Job-site requirements determine work shifts, and work may involve elevated positions or confined spaces. The apprenticeship assigns apprentices among contractors according to training needs. Telecommunications and Walt Disney Maintenance are separate programs, not substitutes for this Inside Wireman route.

Requirements

The application page welcomes Florida residents with reliable transportation who are at least 17 and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants must be 18 at registration. Required documents include picture identification, a Social Security card, birth certificate, diploma or GED, official high school transcripts and evidence of one year of algebra with a passing grade.

Applicants take an aptitude exam covering math and reading comprehension. Anyone absent from a scheduled test waits six months to be rescheduled. Monthly committee interviews then determine ranking. Selection is competitive, and completing the application does not guarantee a place or employment.

Application Process

The sponsor says applications are accepted every day through its online portal. Follow the official application instructions, create and confirm an account, select Inside Wireman, pay the service fee and upload the required documents. Institutions may send transcripts directly to [email protected] or mail them to the Winter Park admissions office.

Interviews may take up to six months depending on volume, and selection may occur months after interview. Applicants remain on the ranking list for possible selection for two years. For application assistance, contact [email protected] or 407-678-3733, extension 1005.

What You Earn

The provider describes tuition as free, but apprentices must buy course materials costing up to $1,100 per school year. The application instructions also require a service fee without stating its amount. Request a complete current estimate; this is not an entirely free training route.

The sponsor's wage figures disagree (its FAQ gives $18.15 for a first-year inside wireman, while its wage table starts at $18.93), so no hourly rate is quoted here. Apprentices receive single health coverage and retirement contributions. Florida DOE's 2022–2023 report lists Central Florida Electrical JATC, program FL008660001, for Electrician (Interior) among registered apprenticeships. That is historical registration evidence, not independent confirmation of current registration status. Program completion does not automatically confer an individual electrician license.
