Program Structure
Cleveland Electrical JATC's Inside Wireman apprenticeship combines employment with signatory electrical contractors and instruction at the IBEW/NECA training center in Valley View. The five-year program has ten training periods and requires 8,000 work hours and 720 classroom hours. The sponsor is the joint training organization of IBEW Local 38 and Greater Cleveland NECA.
The work jurisdiction covers Cuyahoga County, the Geauga County townships of Bainbridge, Chester and Russell, and Columbia Township in Lorain County. The center is at 9333 Sweet Valley Drive. Contractor work locations vary within the service area; confirm attendance and travel expectations with the office.
Requirements
Applicants ordinarily must be 18, although a 17-year-old high school graduate may qualify. The published education requirement accepts a diploma, GED or associate degree or higher. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States, maintain a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation.
The selection process includes aptitude testing and an interview. A qualifying test score of four is normally required; the sponsor describes exceptions for qualifying electrical experience or military service. Ask the office to assess your documents before assuming an exception applies. Applicants also need the ability to perform the required electrical work.
Application Process

The sponsor requires the application process, including supporting materials, fee, testing and interview, to be completed within its stated 60-day period. The application fee is $30 and is non-refundable.

What You Earn
Contractor employment provides paid workplace training; an application or eligibility ranking is not an immediate job offer. No dated wage schedule is quoted here. In addition to the application fee, the program charges a $1,000 educational fee per school year, subject to change. Confirm books, tools and other expenses before committing.
