Program Structure
Toledo Electrical JATC (TEJATC) offers a five-year Inside/Commercial Electrical Apprenticeship, jointly sponsored by IBEW Local 8 and NECA. It requires 8,000-plus hours on the job and 720-plus classroom hours. Inside wiremen install and maintain electrical distribution systems, switchgear, branch-circuit wiring, motor controls, fire alarm, lighting control and emergency power systems in commercial, industrial and institutional buildings. The residential and telecommunications (VDV) apprenticeships are separate programs.
The training center is at 803 Lime City Road, Rossford, OH 43460, and serves northwest Ohio. The work is physically demanding: climbing ladders and scaffolds, crawling into confined spaces and regularly lifting 25–50 pounds. Weekly class times and job travel are not published; confirm them with the office.
Requirements
Applicants must be at least 17, be a high school graduate or hold a GED, and have completed one credit of high school algebra. Submit a copy of your birth certificate and official transcripts within 60 days. Veterans seeking credit for military training provide a DD-214. The $20 processing fee is paid by check, money order, Mastercard or Visa; cash is not accepted.
Qualified applicants are interviewed and ranked on scholastic achievement and work experience, and scores stay active for two years. Selected applicants must pass a physical exam and drug test, and no apprentice may begin work without a medical release.
Application Process
Applications are by appointment only. For now, call the office at 419-666-8088, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., to schedule. The JATC says it will start taking application appointments online on January 4, 2027. Send transcripts to [email protected].
All required documents must arrive within 60 days of your application date, or the application becomes invalid. Apprentices are selected in rank order from the active pool. If you accept a place in any TEJATC program, your name is removed from the selection lists for the others. An application or interview is not a job offer.
What You Earn
TEJATC's wage table for commercial/inside apprentices, effective May 25, 2026, starts at $21.32 an hour (40% of the journeyman scale) and rises with work hours and completed curriculum to $53.29 at journeyman level. Pension and health and welfare contributions are listed separately. The JATC advertises no tuition and employer-paid health, pension and 401(k) benefits; the $20 fee still applies, and book and tool costs are not itemized. TEJATC describes itself as a U.S. Department of Labor registered apprenticeship program; that is its own statement, not a registry check. Licensing requirements are separate.
