Program Structure
Puget Sound Electrical JATC’s Inside Wire apprenticeship trains electricians for commercial and industrial systems. Apprentices work for NECA electrical contractors under qualified IBEW journey-level workers. The program page specifies 8,000 on-the-job hours and 1,000 classroom hours.
The work area covers King, Kitsap, Jefferson and Clallam counties. The Renton center is at 550 SW 7th Street; confirm your assigned training location. Classes occur during alternating quarters. During a school quarter, apprentices attend one eight-hour class day weekly and work the other workdays; during quarters without school they continue field training. Classroom hours are not described here as paid work.
Requirements
Applicants must be at least 18 and document high school completion/GED or another education route allowed by the standards, plus qualifying algebra or an approved equivalent. Follow the FAQ’s official-transcript instructions; a diploma alone is not accepted as proof of graduation.
A valid driver’s license is required. The current FAQ permits out-of-state applicants to use their home-state license, while the posted 2023 standards require a Washington license at application. Confirm this discrepancy before applying from outside Washington. Ordinary applicants take aptitude testing and an interview; the standards describe separate direct-interview and entry routes for qualifying experience or preparation.
Application Process
New applications have been closed since May 1, 2026. There is no announced reopening date. The sponsor promises at least 30 days of public notice before reopening. Applications started before closure continue processing, testing and interviews.
Check the Apply Now notice. The normal process is online, with a $75 application fee and 60 days to complete the file and provide required documents. The continuing presence of an application link does not mean new applications are accepted. Selection and contractor demand determine when employment begins.
What You Earn
Apprentices receive wages for contractor work and have benefit opportunities. Wage increases depend on work hours and school progress; obtain the current agreement and eligibility details before budgeting. No numeric wage is quoted here.
Apprentices pay for books and tuition in two quarterly payments each year, in addition to the application fee. Current amounts and total cost are unconfirmed. Washington’s registered standards 0134 identify the Inside Wireman—General Electrician (01) occupation. Completion of the apprenticeship and passing the state journey-level examination are separate steps toward certification.
