Program Overview
Withlacoochee Technical College (WTC) in Inverness, Florida, offers Electricity as a 1,200-hour career and technical program. WTC says the program prepares students with the skills and work ethic to become competent electrical workers. Students who pass all courses and occupational completion points, settle school debts and meet Florida basic skills requirements earn WTC's Certificate of Program Completion. The program information sheet linked from the program page, revised in June 2024, lists August and January starts and a Monday through Friday schedule from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Curriculum Highlights
Program content includes wiring circuit breakers, transformers and other components; inspecting electrical systems and equipment for hazards, defects or needed repairs under the codes; planning, layout and installation of wiring, equipment and fixtures; estimating; and residential and commercial wiring with an introduction to control wiring. The industry certification listed is NCCER, with optional OSHA and CPR training. Students take part in real field experiences and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work from ladders up to 12 feet.
Admission Requirements
WTC says students 16 or older can apply to many of its programs and that most career programs begin in January and August. Enrollment includes the online application, testing and counseling if required, a meeting with an advisor and a nonrefundable enrollment fee. Applicants gather two documents showing 12 consecutive months of residency, a residency affidavit, and an official high school or college transcript or CASAS results. Most programs admit students first come, first served and keep a waiting list when full.
Cost & Financial Aid
The 2026-2027 cost sheet lists Florida-resident tuition of $1,752 for each of two sessions. With enrollment, registration, activity, lab, masonry membership and NCCER exam fees, tuition and fees total $2,419 for session 1 and $2,207 for session 2. Out-of-state tuition is $7,026 per session. Books, including the NEC code book and NCCER Electricity Levels 1 through 4, and a list of hand tools are extra; prices may change. WTC's steps to apply include completing the FAFSA for a Federal Pell Grant using school code 016258.
Career Outcomes
WTC is accredited by the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education. The program is designed to prepare competent electrical workers for entry-level jobs. WTC's certificate is a school credential; it is not an electrician license, and WTC does not state job placement results on the program page.
