Program Structure
The Electrical Training Alliance of Western Oklahoma offers an Inside Wireman apprenticeship combining paid work for union signatory electrical contractors with 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and 756 hours of classroom education. The sponsor's brochure describes four years of classroom-related study, with at least 189 classroom hours each curriculum year at the JATC's Oklahoma City facility, 1700 SE 15th Street.
The program covers two jurisdictions, Western Oklahoma (Oklahoma City) and Lawton, and apprentices may be required to work anywhere in them. The sponsor's Construction Wireman/Construction Electrician route is a separate program for experienced workers and for applicants who do not meet the apprenticeship minimums; joining it is not enrollment in this apprenticeship.
Requirements
Applicants must be at least 17 to apply and 18 to enter the program. They need a high school diploma, GED or two-year associate degree; a high school senior may apply within 60 days of graduation. Math preparation means a full year of high school Algebra I or one post-high-school algebra course with a passing grade, or the ETA Online Tech Math course. A valid driver's license is required; a state ID is not accepted.
Applicants upload the license and have an official high school transcript emailed directly to the JATC. Selected applicants are subject to drug testing and/or a physical examination and must be willing to work full time anywhere in the jurisdiction.
Application Process
Applications are taken year-round through the sponsor's online portal. A $25 application fee applies from July 1, 2026, payable by credit card after the account request is approved. Applicants have 60 days to provide transcripts and other required documents. Aptitude tests run one day a month for the first 30 completed applicants, and a score of at least 4 out of 9 is needed to continue to an oral interview.
Interviewed applicants are ranked by interview score, and selections follow the ranked list as the JATC needs apprentices. The selection procedures give both one-year and two-year eligibility periods; confirm the current rule with the office at 405-672-7600.
What You Earn
This is a paid program with no tuition. The brochure lists wages effective June 1, 2026 from $21.83 per hour for a first-period apprentice to $43.65 for a journeyman, plus employer-paid health, pension and 401k benefits. Ask about books, tools and other charges; the application fee is not a complete cost estimate.
The brochure says the program is registered with the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Apprenticeship. This is the sponsor's statement; we have not checked a government registry. Completion and electrician licensing are separate.
