Program Structure
Richmond Electricians’ JATC offers the Inside Wireman apprenticeship through four years of classroom instruction and 8,000 hours of supervised construction work. The Training Center assigns accepted apprentices to full-time positions with signatory contractors. Apprentices must be willing to work throughout IBEW Local Union 666’s jurisdiction. Classes meet at 7914 Midlothian Turnpike, N. Chesterfield, Virginia. The published schedule is one day every other week, 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.; extra safety or other training can require additional evenings or weekends.
Requirements
You may apply at age 17; the sponsor’s description of an ideal applicant says 18. The application checklist requires a high school diploma or GED, official transcripts, a valid Virginia driver’s license, legal eligibility to work in the United States, and residence within Local 666’s area. Its GED wording also specifies Algebra I credit or successful Tech Math completion. Applicants need an email address; accepted students need internet access and a computer for class. Acceptance offers depend on passing a post-offer drug screen, and the application page specifies marijuana testing.
Application Process
Applications are accepted online at any time. Create a TradeSchool account through the official Applications page, wait for account approval, and select Inside Wireman Apprenticeship. Construction Wireman is a separate option on that form. The sponsor describes Inside Wireman selection as taking at least three months. Upload the required documents and arrange for transcripts to come directly from the school or arrive in an unopened sealed envelope. After documents are verified, applicants take an aptitude test; a score of four or higher is needed for an interview. The current instructions place the $20 processing fee at the aptitude test, payable at the school; there is no online payment option.
What You Earn
Apprentices receive wages and benefits from the start of their contractor employment. An individual wage figure is not listed here. The published apprentice guidelines charge $600 at each new-session and mid-session registration, covering tuition and textbook/LMS enrollment fees. Apprentices pay in full on registration day or must contact the office beforehand about payment arrangements. This is a charge per registration, not a quoted total for the four-year program. Students must also bring a laptop and hand tools; an all-in equipment cost is not established. The guidelines allow registration charges to change, so confirm the next charge with the Training Center.
