Program Structure
New Mexico JATC offers an Inside Wireman apprenticeship jointly sponsored by NECA and IBEW Local 611. The five-year agreement combines 8,000 hours of on-the-job training with 1,100 classroom hours. Selected apprentices work for union electrical contractors and attend the Albuquerque training center at least one evening each week, with homework and topic examinations.
The center is at 4501 Montbel Place NE. Work assignments can be across New Mexico, excluding Hidalgo, Luna, Dona Ana and Otero counties. Applicants must be willing to travel; training in Albuquerque does not mean every job will be nearby. The contractor pays the apprentice for hours worked.
Requirements
Applicants must be at least 18, have a diploma or GED, and have passed a year of algebra or the accepted NJATC Tech Math course. A valid driver's license is required; provisional and interlock licenses are not accepted. Selected applicants need a computer and internet access for coursework.
Upload the required education records and driver's license through the online system. The sponsor does not accept paper, emailed or hand-delivered documents. The usual aptitude-test threshold is four before interview. Certain recently discharged veterans and applicants with at least 2,000 electrical work hours may qualify for a testing waiver; ask the office which documents it requires.
Application Process
Apply through the official website and pay the $25 non-refundable fee. Complete the online file within 30 days or it closes automatically. Qualifying candidates proceed to an interview and ranking; selections depend on positions becoming available. The eligibility period is one year, after which an unselected candidate must reapply.

What You Earn
Apprentices receive paid employment and training. For 2026–2027, the sponsor lists discounted new first-year book fees of $662.52 with math or $424.52 when math was previously paid. Advancement, repetition and leave-of-absence conditions affect later book charges; obtain a personal estimate. The application fee is additional.
The sponsor-hosted local standards show state approval and registration dated June 23, 2026, although the cover and signature page print different program numbers. Completing the apprenticeship does not itself issue an electrician license; the sponsor separately describes state testing.
