Program Structure
The Los Angeles Electrical Training Institute’s Inside Wireman apprenticeship combines five years of paid employment under a union contract with classroom instruction. It trains workers to install conduit, wiring, fixtures and electrical equipment in residential, commercial and industrial buildings. California’s apprenticeship directory lists Los Angeles Electrical JATC for Electrician (Inside Wireman) in its Los Angeles County search.
The program requires a combination of day and night classes, at least 240 classroom hours annually. Class weeks are unpaid; do not budget as if all attendance time earns wages. The training institute is at 6023 S Garfield Avenue in Commerce. The sponsor’s work-hour progression reaches journey-level pay at 8,000 hours. Confirm the actual job assignment and class calendar before committing.
Requirements
Applicants must be at least 18 at application and provide government photo identification plus a high-school diploma, GED or college degree. Algebra evidence normally means two high-school semesters or one post-high-school semester with C or better; the Electrical Training Alliance’s Tech Math course is another accepted route. Certain documented military-service circumstances waive algebra, but the current notice requires all applicants to take the aptitude test.
A valid Social Security number is required at indenture. Foreign educational documents require the specified translation and notarization. Original documents are checked at boot camp, and transcripts used then must be official sealed copies. Review the physical-work and drug-testing requirements, including the sponsor’s marijuana policy, before applying.
Application Process
Applications are online-only during designated windows. When checked September 8, 2026, ETI advertised October 5–9 tentatively, with exact dates pending and a cap of 2,000 applications. Check the official applicant page for confirmation; this is not an open application window or a guaranteed place.
Applicants must upload the required documents and complete the Personal Experience Form with supporting evidence within 14 days of receiving access. Missing that deadline cancels the application. Testing and ranking follow review; meeting minimum qualifications does not guarantee selection. Direct application questions to the contact on ETI’s applicant page.
What You Earn
The sponsor’s wage schedule effective January 26, 2026 starts at $26 per hour and reaches $65 at the 8,000-hour journey-level step. These are base wage rates, not combined wage-and-benefit totals. Employer-funded benefits are described separately. Ask ETI about the currently applicable schedule and participant expenses; the notice does not establish a complete tuition, fees and tools total.
California DAS lists this specific Inside Wireman apprenticeship. Program registration is not an individual electrician certification, and acceptance, paid employment and completion remain distinct steps.
