Program Structure
The Electrical Training Institute of Indianapolis trains electricians through IBEW Local 481 and Central Indiana NECA. Its electrician program combines contractor employment with at least 720 hours of classroom instruction and 8,000 hours of on-the-job training. The provider describes five terms, approximately five years. This listing concerns the electrician route, not the separate telecommunications or parallel programs.
The training center is at 1751 S Lawndale Avenue in Indianapolis. Selected apprentices typically begin working with a participating contractor, but application alone is not an employment offer. Confirm the assigned work location and class schedule before making transportation arrangements.
Requirements
The August 2026 handbook permits application at 17 but requires age 18 before registered employment. It lists a high school diploma, equivalency credential or qualifying associate degree, algebra with C or better or accepted Tech Math completion, and a valid driver's license. Apprentices must have reliable insured transportation and be capable of the required work with or without reasonable accommodation.
Official transcripts and aptitude testing are part of the application process. The handbook states a passing score, while the current FAQ describes no minimum score for moving forward and interviews only for top-scoring candidates. Because the selection process is changing, confirm which rules apply to your application instead of assuming every applicant receives an interview.
Application Process
Applications are currently paused until October 1. The FAQ identifies an October 1, 2026 transition and explains the Personal Experience Form used to assess education, work experience and recommendation evidence. It directs applicants to apply online and upload supporting materials. Follow the current application page when it reopens.
The FAQ says earlier applications use the previous system; unsuccessful applicants may need to reapply. Ask [email protected] or 317-270-5282 which process applies to an existing file. Do not rely on an older recruitment notice as proof that applications are open now.
What You Earn
Sponsoring organizations cover tuition, while apprentices pay semester books and learning-management-system fees. The handbook requires a Scholarship Loan Agreement and annual renewal of that agreement. Read those obligations before signing; this is not presented as unconditional free training. No dated wage schedule or complete participant total is quoted.
ETI's handbook describes USDOL-registered standards and Form 671 enrollment in RAPIDS. This is the sponsor's account of registration, not an independent government-registry verification or a promise of individual electrician licensure.
