Program Structure

IEC Dallas combines paid electrical-contractor employment with approximately four years of training: 8,000 on-the-job hours and 576 classroom hours. Its program covers wiring in residential, commercial and industrial buildings. The Irving training location is 1931 Hereford Drive. Jobs can move around Dallas–Fort Worth; the application warns that commutes may exceed an hour and location preferences cannot be accommodated.

Expect an average 40-hour workweek; the form describes 6 a.m.–2:30 p.m. as common, not guaranteed. September entrants normally attend one four-hour evening weekly; January entrants attend two. The program page gives 5:30–9:30 p.m., September through May, with no summer classes. Hybrid alternates Zoom and building attendance; online classes meet live, with optional labs.

Requirements

Prepare U.S. identification, a Social Security card, high-school transcript/diploma or GED, a current apprentice electrician license, and applicable DD214 and Selective Service documentation. The program page specifies a driver’s license, while the form accepts U.S. identification and asks about reliable transportation; confirm what your placement requires. The form uses both age 18 at application and age 18 by the training period, so confirm eligibility timing with IEC.

Drug testing, substantial physical work, English communication and travel are part of the application requirements. Read the complete physical-functions checklist and discuss concerns with IEC. The form accepts an experience answer of zero; employment and program selection remain separate requirements.

Application Process

Start with the official application instructions and linked form. IEC Dallas does not post current openings or the next start; the homepage’s dated in-person application notice ended January 12, 2026. Contact IEC at 972-550-1133 before paying or planning a start.

You can request employment assistance if you do not work for a member contractor. IEC arranges interviews with no more than three members; you cannot enter the program until hired. Read the employer-relationship rules, including restrictions on seeking another member-contractor job while enrolled. Applicants must complete their own applications.

What You Earn

The application fee is $40, nonrefundable and payable before processing. Tuition is deducted from apprentice pay for each hour worked, but the published rate’s units are ambiguous; confirm the deduction in writing. Books, software and materials are billed to contractors, who decide whether to pass those expenses to students. The separate $25 weekly contractor fee is not a quoted apprentice tuition rate. IEC does not publish a participant cost total or a dated wage and benefit schedule.

TDLR lists IEC Dallas as program 102. IEC Dallas says the program is registered with the U.S. Department of Labor. The program listing is not an individual license. Program completion and Texas electrician licensing are separate steps.
