IBEW Local 99 and NECA jointly sponsor electrical apprenticeship training based at 40 Western Industrial Drive in Cranston, Rhode Island. This listing covers Inside Wireman, with electrical work and classroom/hands-on training, rather than the separate telecommunications program. Confirm recruitment boundaries, possible out-of-state job assignments and your required class schedule.
Published duration figures conflict. The facility page describes Inside Wireman as four years with 10,000 work hours and over 700 classroom hours, but its college-credit section still refers to a five-year apprenticeship. Ask the JATC for the current standards and completion requirements. A single headline duration and exact classroom total are therefore unconfirmed. Optional college study should not be assumed to award a degree automatically.
Requirements
The current application instructions require a driver’s license, birth certificate, Social Security card and high school completion/GED or equivalent proof. Provide an official transcript showing Algebra One with at least a 70 grade, or completion of the ETA Technical Math course.
Transcripts may come directly from the school to the JATC; hand-delivered transcripts must remain in a school-sealed envelope. Aptitude testing follows completion of the application. Current minimum age, interview requirements, screening and employment-placement details are not established by these instructions; confirm them with the office.
Application Process
General entry-level applications are currently closed, with no next intake date announced. The same page describes separate application routes for people already registered as electrical apprentices and graduates of approved pre-apprenticeships. Those applicants must provide registration/hours or completion records; eligibility for an exception is not automatic admission.
Read the current application instructions and contact the JATC at 401-946-9908. Applications begin at the training facility, with 30 days to complete documentation. Unfinished applications are discarded. The page mentions forty entry-level applications without announcing a new date; that statement does not override the closure.
What You Earn
The sponsor describes opportunities to earn wages and benefits while learning. Current pay rates, benefit eligibility and the timing of contractor placement are unconfirmed. Request those terms before accepting an apprenticeship offer.
A $25 application fee and separate $25 aptitude-testing fee apply. Payment is by card, money order or certified check; cash and personal checks are not accepted. Registration is not proof that applications are open or that completion automatically grants an electrician license.
