Requirements
You can apply at 17 and begin work at 18. Applicants must live in New Hampshire or York County, Maine, hold a valid driver's license, and meet the work's physical and mental demands. Education options include a diploma, GED, HiSET or an associate degree or higher. Seniors may apply if they graduate before August classes.
Provide official transcripts showing Algebra 1 with at least C, identification, a basic work-history resume and military discharge documentation when applicable. The JATC requires an aptitude test covering mathematics and reading comprehension. Passing applicants proceed to summer interviews and ranking.
Application Process
The sponsor is accepting applications for the 2027–2028 school year, beginning August 2027. Its application period runs June 1 through May 20, with interviews and selection scheduled for June–July 2027. A June 2026 official congressional grant announcement describes Local 490 JATC as a registered union electrical apprenticeship program.
