Program Structure
The Denver Joint Electrical Apprenticeship and Training Committee (DJEATC) runs a four-year Inside Wireman apprenticeship, jointly sponsored by the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and IBEW Local 68. Inside wiremen install conduit, wiring, fixtures and electrical equipment in commercial buildings and industrial settings. Apprentices usually work a standard forty-hour week for a contractor the JATC assigns, and take courses at the same time, usually two evenings a week with an occasional Saturday class. The JATC is at 5610 Logan Street in Denver. Its jurisdiction is large: you may be assigned to a jobsite anywhere in it and must be willing to travel. The JATC works with contractors throughout Colorado but does not publish its exact boundaries.
Requirements
You need a current, valid driver's license (ID cards and instruction permits are not accepted); a second ID such as a Social Security card, birth certificate or passport; and a high school, college or GED diploma, or a transcript that states your graduation date. An associate degree or higher also qualifies, but partial college does not. Foreign transcripts must be officially translated. Include a DD-214 if it applies to you. The sponsor does not publish a minimum age. Before selection, Inside Wireman applicants undergo a background check: only felonies in the past seven years are considered, a conviction is not an automatic exclusion, and each case is assessed by the committee. Pre-employment and later drug tests screen for marijuana.
Application Process
When checked on October 6, 2026, applications were closed; the sponsor says they reopen on February 1, 2027. Applications open twice a year, February 1 to March 31 and August 1 to September 30, and are done online. Submit the required documents through the How to Apply page; once the DJEATC team approves your account, you get an email with instructions to start the online application, which has a $35 nonrefundable fee payable by credit card only. GAN then emails you a Personal Experience Form, which you must complete within two weeks or the application is disqualified. The GAN aptitude test covers paper folding, numerical computation, numerical reasoning, reading comprehension and mechanical reasoning; it is offered on the second, third and fourth Fridays of each month, and a study guide costs $20.
What You Earn
When checked on October 6, 2026, the program page said wages start at $22.70 an hour and reach $37.01 by the time you finish, and gave a current journeyman wage of $49.35. None of these figures carries an effective date, so ask for the current schedule. Apprentices are paid a percentage of the journeyman wage that rises with each pay period, and the sponsor describes pension and medical plans. Tuition, books and tools are not published; the $35 fee is not the total cost. Earning a journeyman's license is a requirement for completing the program.
