Program Structure
Charleston Electrical JATC runs an inside wireman apprenticeship for IBEW Local 466 and the West Virginia-Ohio Valley chapter of NECA. It is an affiliate of the electrical training ALLIANCE. This is the Charleston, West Virginia program, not Charleston, South Carolina. The JATC says apprentices earn while they learn, with wages, paid health benefits, pensions and guaranteed wage advancement.
The training center is at 810 Indiana Ave, Charleston, WV 25302. Program length, required work and classroom hours, the weekly class schedule and how job assignments work are not published; ask before making work or commuting plans.
The JATC's application notice, republished by the WV Building & Construction Trades Council, interviews residents of a Charleston-area zone, a Bluefield/Princeton-area zone and specified southwest Virginia counties. The training address does not define the whole work area; confirm your county and possible job travel with the JATC.
Requirements
The republished notice lists: at least 17 to apply and 18 at indenture; physically able to do the essential functions of the trade; a high school diploma or GED; and one full year of high school algebra or one post-high-school algebra course with a passing grade. Applicants provide official transcripts, a valid driver's license and, for veterans seeking credit, a DD-214.
An aptitude test decides who qualifies for an interview, and apprentices are selected in ranking order. Applicants who document at least 4,000 hours in electrical construction do not need to meet the diploma and algebra items. Because the notice carries an older window, confirm the full 2027 checklist with the JATC.
Application Process
The JATC's apprenticeship page says the 2026 application period has closed and the next period begins January 4, 2027. No end date is given. The republished notice's January 3 to March 4 dates should not be used for the next intake.

The notice says applications are filled out at the JATC office with all required materials; incomplete applications go on a waiting list. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee selection or a job.
What You Earn
Apprentice wage amounts, benefit eligibility, tuition, books, tools and total costs are not published. The republished notice lists a $20 application fee; confirm the current fee rather than treating it as a 2027 quote.
The JATC's notice says it operates the program as required under federal apprenticeship equal-opportunity rules (29 CFR part 30); a government registry listing was not confirmed. This listing covers the inside wireman route only. Completing the apprenticeship does not itself give you an electrical license.
