Program Structure
Charleston Electrical JATC provides an inside-wireman apprenticeship associated with IBEW Local 466 and the West Virginia–Ohio Valley chapter of NECA. This is the Charleston, West Virginia program, distinct from Charleston, South Carolina. The sponsor describes apprenticeship as earning wages while training, with wage advancement, health benefits, and pensions.
The training center is at 810 Indiana Avenue, Charleston, WV 25302. Current program duration, required work and classroom hours, weekly attendance schedule, and participant job-assignment arrangements are unconfirmed. Request those details before making work or commuting plans.
The affiliated building-trades council lists a Charleston-area zone, a Bluefield/Princeton-area zone, and specified southwest Virginia counties. Its notice ties interviews to residence in listed counties. Confirm your county and potential job travel with the JATC; the Charleston training address does not define the full work area.
Requirements
The council's published notice lists age 17 to apply and 18 at indenture, high school graduation or GED, and passing high school or postsecondary algebra. Applicants supply official education records, a valid driver's license, and a DD-214 when requesting consideration of military experience. Applicants must be physically able to perform the trade's essential functions.
The notice describes an aptitude test for interview eligibility, followed by ranked selection. It also describes an education/algebra exception for applicants documenting at least 4,000 hours of electrical-construction experience. Because this notice includes an older recruitment window, confirm the complete 2027 checklist and exception rules directly with the JATC.
Application Process
The current sponsor notice says the 2026 application period has closed and the next period begins January 4, 2027. An end date is not stated. The older council notice's January 3–March 4 dates should not be used for the next intake.
