Program Structure
The Phoenix Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (PEJATC) trains apprentices in the inside electrical construction trade. Its July 2026 committee policy requires at least 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and at least 720 hours of related instruction over four calendar years and eight semesters. The JATC assigns selected apprentices to signatory contractors, and all work is supervised by a journeyman wireman. First-year apprentices attend class one day every other week; second- through fourth-year apprentices take up to three night classes or labs a week while working full time. Training centers are the West Campus at 4016 N Black Canyon Hwy and the Central Campus at 1520 E Indianola Ave in Phoenix. You must be able to reach job sites anywhere in the program's jurisdiction.
Requirements
You must be at least 18 by the time you start. Applications need a state-issued photo ID, a high school diploma or GED, and transcripts showing two semesters of high school Algebra 1 and 2 with passing grades or one semester of college algebra; otherwise complete the NJATC Tech Math course first. Applicants with over 2,000 documented hours of electrical construction work, or at least three years of honorably discharged active-duty service, are exempt from the school and math requirements. The work involves climbing, confined spaces and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Application Process
PEJATC is accepting applications for the class starting in July 2027; the deadline is March 15, 2027 at 4:00 p.m. Create a TradeSchool account, then choose Applications, Inside Wireman Apprenticeship, and pay the $40 non-refundable fee before starting. You have 30 days to finish. Selected applicants complete a mandatory Personal Experience Form through GAN Human Resources instead of an in-person interview and take a Saturday aptitude test with no minimum score. The JATC receives thousands of applications for limited places, so applying does not guarantee selection.
What You Earn
Apprentices start at 55% of the journeyman rate and rise through six periods to 90% before completion, with raises tied to hours, class progress, current fees and evaluations. On October 6, 2026 the FAQ listed a starting rate of $23.18 per hour; confirm the current rate. Benefits include health insurance and pension plans. Classes are paid through a monthly subscription, which the FAQ gives as $187 a month for the four years; books, lesson materials and online access are provided. Arizona's training-provider listing, last updated in 2024, estimated $10,510 for tuition, books and tools. Arizona lists PEJATC as an approved apprenticeship sponsor. Completion and Arizona electrician licensing are separate.
