Program Structure
The Omaha Joint Electrical Apprenticeship and Training Committee (OJEATC) offers an Inside Wireman program for commercial and industrial electrical work. It is a five-year systematic program of learning with 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and at least 900 hours of related study. Inside wiremen install and maintain lighting, power distribution, motor controls, building automation and backup-power systems in commercial and industrial facilities, and classroom study reinforces the skills learned on the job.
The OJEATC office is at 8960 L Street, Suite 200, Omaha, where the aptitude test is also given. The committee has separate telecom and residential programs, which this listing does not cover. Recruitment boundaries, travel distances and weekly class schedules are not published; ask OJEATC before planning a commute.
Requirements
You may apply at 17 but must be at least 18 on the day you are interviewed. By the interview you must have submitted a high school transcript and diploma or its equivalent, such as a GED, and have completed one year of high school algebra with a C or better or its equivalent. GED holders also submit the high school transcript up to the point they left. A valid driver's license is required.
The aptitude test is scored from 1 to 9, and you need at least 4 to be interviewed. Selected applicants must pass a substance abuse test and a physical, and need a computer with internet access for online lessons.
Application Process
New applications have been paused since September 1, 2026. Applications started before that date continue to be processed, including testing and interviews. No reopening date is announced, so watch the official Applications page. The same page still contains the older statement that applications are accepted year-round; the dated pause notice takes precedence.
Under the normal process you complete an online application, submit records, take the aptitude test and interview, and finish all requirements within 90 days of applying. Interviews are held as needed, usually monthly. Selection follows interview scoring. Applicants who are interviewed but not selected generally wait a year to reapply, unless they gain qualifying experience or classes. Call the office at 402-331-3103 with questions.
What You Earn
OJEATC does not publish a wage or benefit schedule, so no hourly rate is given here; ask about pay, benefits and any repayment obligations before accepting an offer. The published application fee is $20. Tuition, book and tool costs are not published, and a computer with internet access is an extra practical cost. The sponsor's pages do not say whether the program is registered or with which agency. Completing training is separate from getting any required electrician license.
