Program Structure
Omaha Joint Electrical Apprenticeship and Training Committee offers an Inside Wireman program focused on commercial and industrial electrical systems. The five-year apprenticeship includes 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and a minimum of 900 hours of related study. Classroom learning reinforces installation, maintenance and troubleshooting skills developed at work.
Training and application testing use the Omaha center at 8960 L Street, Suite 200. Work can include power distribution, lighting, motor controls, building automation and backup-power systems. Exact recruitment boundaries, travel distances and weekly class schedules are unconfirmed; ask OJEATC before planning a commute. Requirements
You may apply at age 17 but must be 18 by interview. By interview, provide high school completion or equivalent, transcripts and one year of high school algebra with C or better or its equivalent. GED applicants also submit their earlier high school transcript. A valid driver’s license is required.
The aptitude test requires a score of at least four to advance to an interview. Selected applicants must pass a physical and substance-abuse examination. Apprentices also need a computer and internet access for online lessons; confirm current technical requirements before purchasing equipment.
Application Process
New applications are paused effective September 1, 2026. Applications started before the deadline continue processing, including testing and interviews. No reopening date is announced. The dated closure notice takes precedence over the older year-round language still displayed on the same page.
Monitor the official Applications page. Its normal process calls for an online application, records, aptitude testing and interview, with all application requirements completed within 90 days. Existing applicants should confirm how that deadline applies to their file during the pause. Selection follows interview scoring; applying is not an employment guarantee.
What You Earn
The sponsor describes apprenticeship as earning income while learning. A current program-specific wage and benefit schedule was not established, so no hourly rate is quoted. Request employment terms, benefit eligibility and any training-repayment obligations before accepting an offer.
The published application fee is $20. Tuition, books, tools and total participant cost are unconfirmed; a computer and internet are additional practical requirements.
