Program Structure
Milwaukee Electrical Training Institute (METI) is backed by IBEW Local 494 and the NECA Milwaukee Chapter. The Inside Construction apprenticeship is a competitive five-year program that blends classroom learning with paid on-the-job training for commercial and industrial electrical work. METI also describes a Construction Wireman / Construction Electrician (CW/CE) field route, a Residential Construction Worker (RCW) program, and Sound and Communication technician training. Those routes use different applications, handled in part by the Local 494 office, and are separate from Inside Construction.
Inside Construction apprentices attend required classes while working for a signatory contractor. Exact on-the-job hour totals and annual classroom hours are not published. METI offices are at the Greenfield Training Center, 6300 W. Layton Avenue, Greenfield, WI 53220. A second site is the Wauwatosa Training Center, 11001 W. Plank Ct., Suite 120, Wauwatosa, WI 53226. Confirm which site you would attend and where job sites are located before commuting.
Requirements
METI's How-to-Apply page says the inside-apprenticeship process includes required qualifications, testing, and timelines, and that applicants move through aptitude testing as part of competitive selection. The pages do not publish a complete public checklist with age, diploma, or algebra rules for this track. Application Process
If you are applying for the Inside Construction apprenticeship, METI handles applications and questions. Do not send this application to the Local 494 office used for CW/CE, RCW, or CTECH. The pages describe reviewing the apprenticeship application steps, completing required application and testing, then placement with a contractor if accepted. They do not say whether applications are open, closed, or rolling, so current openings are unknown. An application, test, or ranking does not guarantee contractor placement or a start date.
What You Earn
METI describes earn-while-you-learn employment from day one and says some programs may have minimal fees for tools or materials, without a numbered tuition total or dated wage table for the inside apprenticeship. Confirm current pay, benefits, and any fees with METI or the hiring contractor. Wisconsin DWD lists Milwaukee Area Electrical JAC for Construction Electrician, using METI's Wauwatosa address, phone, and former mejatc.com website. Its active-program report also names that occupation; this does not establish current openings. Completing the apprenticeship is not a Wisconsin electrician license.
