Program Structure
Louisville Electrical JATC offers a four-year Inside Wireman apprenticeship combining full-time work for participating electrical contractors with classroom and laboratory education. Its construction training covers electrical theory, print reading, grounding, controls, conduit work, communication systems and the National Electrical Code. This listing covers the inside electrical route; the outside lineman program has a separate application contact.
The Louisville campus is at 4315 Preston Highway, Suite 100. The JATC also lists a Lexington campus and describes classroom attendance one day every other week during the training year. Confirm your assigned classroom and work location before planning travel. An application does not establish a contractor assignment or a preferred job location.
Requirements
You may open an application at 17, but must be at least 18 before acceptance. Applicants need a high school diploma or GED, a full credit of high school algebra or higher math with C or better, and a valid driver's license. Previous electrical experience is not required. Supply documentation if you want prior training or experience considered.
The FAQ describes aptitude testing, interviews and a ranked eligibility list. It also says not every applicant receives an interview. Participating employers require substance-abuse testing. Review these conditions before applying, including the practical demands of construction employment and classroom attendance.
Application Process
Applications are open September 1–14, 2026 and close September 14 at 4:30 p.m. Follow the current online instructions and pay the $55 processing/testing fee. Required documents must be submitted within 21 days. Complete the Personal Experience Form and follow subsequent scheduling instructions.
The current application page emphasizes the application, experience form and aptitude test; the FAQ also describes an interview. Confirm which selection steps apply to your file. Placement depends on available work and ranking, so completing the process does not guarantee immediate employment.
What You Earn
Selected apprentices earn pay through contractor employment. No dated wage amount is quoted here. The sponsor currently charges no tuition, with books covered subject to requirements; apprentices remain responsible for a computer, tools, supplies and work clothing.
The JATC describes registration through the Kentucky Department of Labor. This is the sponsor's statement, not an independent registry check. Apprenticeship completion and individual electrician licensing are separate matters.
