Program Structure

Atlanta Electrical JATC offers a four-year Inside Wireman apprenticeship focused on commercial and industrial electrical construction. It requires at least 8,000 hours of on-the-job learning and at least 720 hours of classroom and hands-on laboratory instruction. The training trust is a partnership between the Atlanta Electrical Contractors Association and IBEW Local 613, with its training facility in Peachtree Corners, Georgia.

Classes meet one day every other week, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Courses are hybrid: some meetings are in person and others are virtual. The program requires full-time employment with a union contractor. This listing does not describe the separate Telecommunications apprenticeship or Construction Electrician program.

Requirements

The Inside Wireman route does not require previous electrical experience. Applicants need a high school diploma or GED and must pass the math, algebra and reading-comprehension aptitude test with a score of at least 5 of 9. Required documents include photo identification, an accepted birth or citizenship document, education records and proof of residence within Local 613's jurisdiction.

The application page links jurisdiction maps for Georgia and Alabama and warns that work assignments may be anywhere within that area. Ask the office about the documented graduating-senior pathway if you have not yet graduated.

Application Process

Check this listing's summary for the application window, and confirm dates with the JATC before applying: its web pages are not all current, and the instructions page still shows an older March 31, 2026 deadline.

Existing applicants or contractor employees should contact [email protected] instead of creating a second account. Passing the aptitude test makes an applicant eligible to request a work assignment; applying does not guarantee employment. The work-assignment guidelines say jobs are currently very limited; new hires need dependable transportation and must pass a drug test.

What You Earn

The posted nonrefundable application-processing and aptitude-test fees are $23 each, $46 combined. Veterans should ask about the processing-fee waiver before applying. A contractor-funded scholarship covers tuition and class fees; apprentices pay for books and learning materials, due six weeks before each year's first semester ($620.63 for the first year on the October 1, 2025 to April 15, 2026 cost sheet). Review the apprenticeship scholarship agreement before committing. The JATC's pay-rate sheet, updated September 8, 2026, starts first-year apprentices at the rate in this listing's summary and raises pay every 1,600 work hours once the book balance is paid, up to $31.50 in the fifth year. It gives no effective date, and the requirements page still shows an older $18.00 starting rate.

Pay level Per hour
1st year $18.90
2nd year $21.00
3rd year $23.10
4th year $27.30
5th year $31.50
Graduate: 8,000 work hours, classes done, balance paid $42.00

The sponsor identifies this route as a U.S. Department of Labor registered apprenticeship and describes journey-level completion certifications. Those are sponsor-reported program claims, not an independent registry check or a promise of an individual electrician license.
