Program Structure
IBEW Local 269 JATC offers an approximately five-year Inside Wireman apprenticeship combining classroom instruction and employment with participating electrical contractors. Inside wiremen install and maintain electrical systems in commercial and industrial facilities, including lighting, power distribution, motors, controls, conduit, and associated wiring. Local 269 also offers separate telecommunications and high-voltage-testing apprenticeships; those tracks are not part of this listing.
The JATC training address is 676 Whitehead Road, Trenton, NJ 08648. Applicants must live within Local 269's jurisdiction, shown on the sponsor's territorial map. A New Jersey address alone does not establish eligibility; check the mapped boundary before applying. The sponsor does not publish classroom-hour totals, total work hours, or an attendance schedule on the program page. Confirm class timing and expected job travel with the JATC.
Requirements
Applicants may be 17 when applying but must be 18 by July 1 of that year. A valid driver's license is required. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent by the interview and a passing grade in high school algebra or its equivalent. Residency within the Local 269 jurisdiction is mandatory.
After applying, applicants have 30 days to provide the required documentation. Those who complete the application process take a standardized aptitude test. A passing result leads to an interview, typically during the third week of June. Meeting minimum requirements or receiving an interview does not guarantee admission.
Application Process
Applications for the 2026 class are closed. The announced next application window is January 1 through March 31, 2027. The sponsor says accepted apprentices are placed with a participating electrical contractor for at least 40 hours of employment per week. Placement follows acceptance; submitting an application is not an employment offer. Confirm the actual work start and class schedule before making commitments.
What You Earn
The sponsor describes yearly wage increases after successful completion of each school year's curriculum. A dated hourly wage schedule is not published here. Ask for current cash wages, benefit eligibility, and participant charges. A no-cost application does not establish free tuition or cover books, tools, or dues. The sponsor describes its programs as U.S. Department of Labor registered apprenticeships.
