Program Structure
Chemeketa Community College says IEC of Oregon provides courses and administers this BOLI-registered Inside Wire Electrician apprenticeship. Classes are for electrician apprentices only. The Area II Inside Electrical JATC standard names the occupation Electrician, labels the license General Journeyman Electrician, and sets 8,000 hours. BOLI lists the committee on its Electrician, Inside trade page. A separate Area II standard covers a residential electrician at 4,000 hours. This listing is only the 8,000-hour occupation.
Chemeketa calls it a 4-year program with 8,000 on-the-job training hours and 576 classroom hours. The standard requires at least 144 related-training hours each year and totals 576. Evening classes meet at the Independent Electrical Training Center, 3575 Del Webb Avenue NE Salem, OR 97301. The standard covers Benton, Harney, Lincoln, Linn, Marion, and Polk counties, and the south half of Yamhill county, in Oregon.
Requirements
Apply at 17 or older. Registration waits until 18. The standard requires a high school diploma or GED equivalency certificate, or an associate degree or higher from an institution accredited by a state education agency. Math is one year of high school algebra, Integrated Math II, or equivalent with a C or higher, or equivalent placement scores. Chemeketa does not require a math assessment when one year of algebra was completed with a C or higher. The ordinary route also uses WorkKeys scores in Applied Math, Workplace Documents, and Graphic Literacy, and an oral structured interview. The committee takes applications as the needs of the trade arise. A Manufacturing Plant Electrician license or a residential electrical license lets someone apply at any time.
Application Process
Apply through IEC of Oregon. Chemeketa prints that applications are accepted by IEC through August 15, 2026, and does not print a later window. The BOLI page for this committee says the status is accepting applications. Those statements differ, so this listing does not call the window open or closed. The apply phone on the Chemeketa page is 503.598.7789. After BOLI registers you as an IEC of Oregon apprentice, you attend evening classes, register each term through student.chemeketa.edu at no charge, and pay through IEC.
What You Earn
The standard moves from 40 percent to 80 percent of the journey-level rate across eight periods. Its January 1, 2026 average and the BOLI page's January 1, 2025 average differ, so no dollar wage is printed here. Chemeketa's undated hourly figures are left out as well. Apprenticeship payment is through IEC, and these pages do not print a dated tuition or book total. Chemeketa says successful electrician apprentices qualify for state licensure. Chemeketa tells completers to select and pay for the journeyman electrician test through the Oregon Building Codes Division (503.378.4133) and schedule it at the Chemeketa Testing Center. Completion does not itself issue the license. Chemeketa says apprentices may also earn a Certificate of Completion or an AAS degree in Electrician Apprenticeship Technologies, each requiring general education courses, and that credits can transfer to OIT for a BS degree.
