Program Overview

University of Arkansas-Pulaski Technical College offers Electrical Lineworker Technology at the UA-PTC Transportation Technology Center, 13000 Interstate 30 Little Rock AR, 72210. The program page calls the technical certificate a certified power line worker training program. Students learn to install, repair, service, and maintain electrical power lines and supporting equipment.

The page lists a Technical Certificate in Electrical Lineworker Technology and a Certificate of Proficiency in Electrical Lineworker Technology. It also lists a separate Certificate of Proficiency in Tractor and Trailer Operation (CDL). That CDL certificate is a different award on the same page.

The college history page says UA - Pulaski Tech is a comprehensive two-year college in the Arkansas Technical and Community College System maintained by the State of Arkansas. The college states that it is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

Curriculum Highlights

Classes meet Monday-Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The page says the program includes an industry-recognized National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) credential.

Students pursuing the technical certificate who already hold a commercial driver's license may need prior-learning assessment for course credit. The page does not print a credit total or a calendar length for either lineworker award.

Admission Requirements

Students must meet the 300 pound weight limit for the equipment safety rating, complete the college admission process, complete all Workday onboarding tasks, and schedule an advising appointment to register for classes. Enrollment during Fall and Spring registration is limited to the first 16 students and is first come, first served. Admission to the college is not a guarantee of admission into the program. All registration holds must be cleared before a student can register. The page does not say a current term is open.

For registration in HVOLT courses, the page lists the Director of Academic Advising at (501) 812-2762.

Cost & Financial Aid

The bursar lists in-state tuition of $147 per credit hour and out-of-state or international tuition of $300 per credit hour. Mandatory fees on that page include a facility, IT, and security fee of $70 per credit hour and a student support services fee of $7.80 per credit hour. The same page lists an HVOLT fee of $200 per credit hour. The program page refers to HVOLT courses. The bursar page does not print a certificate total, and this listing does not multiply those rates by a credit count. These pages do not say which aid applies to these certificates.

Career Outcomes

The program page says graduates may obtain employment in the field of electrical power line work with one of its listed program partners, and that the program includes an NCCER credential. Partner images on the page are labeled Entergy, Southwestern Electric Power Company, OGE Energy Corporation, Chain Electric, ConwayCorp, North Little Rock Electric, Electric Cooperation of Arkansas, ULCS Utility Construction Services, and 1st Choice Utility Construction, LLC. The page does not say completion is an electrician license, a journeyman card, or a registered apprenticeship.
