Program Overview
Moraine Park Technical College (MPTC) offers Electricity, program 31-413-1, as a one-year technical diploma at its Fond du Lac and West Bend campuses. MPTC says the two-semester diploma prepares students for the State Electrical Apprenticeship program and a career in electricity, with skills in residential, commercial and industrial work. The program page lists 34 credits, while the 2026-2027 catalog plan of study totals 35 credits, 17 in the first semester and 18 in the second; ask an advisor which total applies to your start.
Curriculum Highlights
The first semester covers beginning electrical concepts, residential and commercial wiring concepts, introductory and intermediate National Electrical Code, OSHA job site safety, construction trades blueprint reading, occupational mathematics, computer literacy and College 101. The second semester covers advanced electrical concepts, basic motor controls, industrial wiring concepts, electrical fabrication, trends in electricity, oral and interpersonal communication, and intermediate algebra with applications. Program outcomes are to apply electrical theory, install equipment in residential and commercial settings, and analyze industrial equipment. Students must buy a tool kit.
Admission Requirements
MPTC's standard admissions start with an online application and a one-time $30 fee; applications close about two weeks before classes start. Applicants submit an official high school, GED or HSED, or college transcript, and either ACT or SAT scores or the Accuplacer test, unless their transcript or test history meets the exemption rules. Some programs have waitlists or need extra items such as background checks, so review the program's status before applying.
Cost & Financial Aid
The 2026-2027 catalog lists occupational tuition of $157.45 per credit for Wisconsin residents and $236.18 for out-of-state residents, plus a $14.17 per-credit supplemental fee, material fees of at least $6.00 per course and a $4.50 student accident insurance fee each term. Online students are not charged out-of-state fees. The catalog says this program is eligible for financial aid. MPTC notes that College 101, Intermediate Algebra and Oral and Interpersonal Communication count for fewer credits for aid purposes than the tuition credits charged, which can affect full-time status.
Career Outcomes
MPTC lists apprentice commercial, industrial and residential electrician as career opportunities and shows an industrial wiring certificate and related electrical power distribution and industrial electrician apprenticeship pathways.
