Program Overview
Florence-Darlington Technical College (FDTC) offers the Electrician Certificate in Applied Science (program code CAS.ELEC). The current program page lists 29 credits, eight months and daytime study. Curriculum Highlights
The certificate introduces the theory that governs electricity, electrical codes, wiring, print reading and electrical load calculations. The 2026-2027 catalog lists nine courses totaling 29 credits over two semesters, starting in the fall: Basic Electricity, AC/DC Circuits I, Residential/Commercial Wiring and Electrical Print Reading (14 credits), then Electrical Measurements, National Electrical Code, Control Circuits, Electrical Installation and Power Systems (15 credits). The program page's course list omits Control Circuits, so confirm the current plan with an advisor.
Graduates should be able to apply safe work practices, apply basic DC and AC theory, apply the National Electrical Code to a residential or industrial example, and wire a residential or industrial example.
Admission Requirements
Apply online, then send an official high school transcript or GED and any test scores you have. Some applicants may qualify for an admission waiver or provisional acceptance. Test scores are not required for admission but are used for class placement. The catalog lists ENG 155 or equivalent test scores as the program entrance requirement, so check your placement with admissions.

FDTC charges tuition per credit hour: $185 for Florence, Darlington and Marion County residents, $196 for other South Carolina residents, $274 for out-of-state students and $363 for international students.
