Program Overview
Fayetteville Technical Community College’s Electrical Systems Technology Associate in Applied Science (A35130) trains students to install and maintain electrical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial facilities. The degree requires 65 credits. Its full-time sequence spans five semesters, including summer coursework, and a separate part-time sequence is published. The program fact sheet says most coursework is hands-on and that the program is designed for students to enter in fall or spring; other entry points need department-chair approval. The program page and fact sheet give only the department office, Cumberland Hall, Room 334-H, at 2215 Hull Road in Fayetteville; neither names the building where classes and labs meet. 2201 Hull Road is the college's general mailing address.
Curriculum Highlights
Students begin with DC/AC electricity and an introduction to programmable logic controllers. Residential wiring, motors and controls, National Electrical Code applications, and photovoltaic systems follow. Later courses cover electrical estimating, advanced residential wiring, commercial wiring, blueprint reading, construction safety, and code calculations. The part-time sequence and fact sheet end with an applications project, while the program page’s full-time table lists electrical system design in that slot; confirm the final course with an advisor. The degree also includes computing, communication, mathematics, business, humanities, and social or behavioral science coursework. Learning objectives include reading schematics, analyzing circuits, sizing and installing distribution equipment, and estimating labor and materials for residential or commercial bids.
Admission Requirements
FTCC follows an open-door admissions policy, but this AAS lists a high school diploma, one unit of algebra, and placement-test equivalent as prerequisites. New students determine residency through the state system, apply online, send official transcripts, activate their student accounts, and meet with an advisor before paying tuition. Transcripts help determine college-level placement and possible transfer credit. Program questions can go to department chair Ron Hamilton at 910-678-8326 or [email protected].
Cost & Financial Aid
The program page estimates in-state tuition at $4,940 and the total including books, fees, and supplies at $6,495. Corresponding out-of-state estimates are $17,420 tuition and $18,975 total. All costs are estimates and subject to change; residency determination decides which tuition rate applies. The fact sheet says scholarships, Title IV aid, and veterans’ assistance may be available for associate degrees. FTCC also offers a no-interest tuition payment plan with setup fees.
Career Outcomes
The program says graduates should qualify for electrical jobs as on-the-job trainees or apprentices assisting with the layout, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems. The curriculum combines construction wiring with industrial controls and solar topics. The award represented here is the AAS; FTCC’s separate diploma and certificate routes have their own requirements and durations.
