Program Overview
Dallas College's Commercial Electrical Technology Certificate is a 27-credit Level I college certificate. The 2026-2027 catalog offers it at the Cedar Valley (Lancaster), Eastfield (Mesquite) and North Lake (Irving) campuses only. The college estimates eight months to finish for full-time students; course availability at your campus can change that.
The plan allows Special Topics in place of Cooperative Education, so it does not require every student to enter through an employer placement; confirm with an advisor. The North Texas Electrical JATC apprenticeship, which offers a Dallas College degree path through North Lake, holds all of its own classroom training at its Grand Prairie center.
Curriculum Highlights
The first 12 credits cover Basic Electrical Theory, Introduction to Electrical Safety and Tools, Electrical Blueprint Reading and National Electrical Code I. The next 15 credits cover Distribution Systems, Motor Control, Commercial Wiring, Residential Wiring and either Cooperative Education or Special Topics. Commercial Wiring is the capstone. Courses may be taken in any order after consulting the instructor. The award is a certificate, separate from the college's associate degree.
Admission Requirements
Apply free with the Dallas College application or ApplyTexas. Before meeting a success coach or registering, submit official high school and/or college transcripts sent directly by the issuing school, TSI assessment or high school test scores, and, if you are younger than 22, proof of meningitis vaccination. The catalog's steps are to apply, meet Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements, meet a success coach, and register and pay. This certificate waives TSI standards but keeps course prerequisites, and at least 25% of credits must be completed through Dallas College instruction.
The catalog notes that the program may lead to an occupational license for which a prior criminal history can make a student ineligible. Before registering, contact a pathway specialist at 972-669-6400 or [email protected] to confirm the campus, next classes and the cooperative-course alternative.
Cost & Financial Aid
Dallas College estimates $2,673 in tuition for in-county residents, which matches 27 credits at $99 per credit hour. Out-of-county residents pay $169 per credit hour and out-of-state or out-of-country residents $250. An extra $50 per credit hour can apply to courses attempted three or more times and to credits beyond the state maximum for a degree. Dallas College says the price of most required learning materials (books, software, supplies) is included in tuition, but certain programs have additional costs; ask for a full estimate and confirm aid eligibility.
