Program Overview
College of Western Idaho offers an Electrical Apprenticeship program through Workforce Development and Training. The program page lists a Certificate of Completion. It says a student can be employed while learning electrical work, that the program meets the State of Idaho requirements for apprentices, and that it sets a student on the path to test for journeyman certification. The page describes classroom instruction alongside employment. It does not say the college is the employer or the registered apprenticeship sponsor.
The college history page says a supermajority of voters in Canyon and Ada counties voted to form a community college district. The accreditation page says College of Western Idaho is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.
Curriculum Highlights
The program page says students learn electrical theory, code compliance, and installation techniques, combining employment in the field with classroom instruction. The workforce class listing says each year is four 8-week quarters, taken in order A, B, C, and D. A passing grade of 70 percent or higher in all quarters is required before the next year's courses. That listing shows Electrical Apprenticeship Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, and Year 4. Classes are Hyflex or online-only. Online-only sections do not have designated in-person or Zoom meetings.
The program page names Canyon County Center as the primary location. The campus page places that center at 2407 Caldwell Blvd. Nampa, ID 83651, and says it is home to workforce development classes and skilled trades. Building hours there are Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those are building hours, not a class time. A Hyflex or online-only section may not meet in that building.
Admission Requirements
The program page says to choose an Electrical Apprenticeship course and add it to the cart. Courses are added throughout the year. The class listing is the registration page. The program page does not announce that a named term is open. Payment in full or payment arrangements are required at registration. Workforce Development is listed at 208.562.2700.
Cost & Financial Aid
The program page says the cost is $375 per quarter or $1,500 for the full series of sessions A, B, C, and D. The class listing shows $1,500 on Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, and Year 4, and $375 on individual sections. This listing does not add those year prices into a four-year total. Course material fees vary by year, and class costs are subject to change without notice. These pages do not say which financial aid applies to this certificate.
Career Outcomes
The program page says the training meets Idaho requirements for apprentices and prepares a student to test for journeyman certification. It does not say the college places a graduate, issues an Idaho journeyman license, or registers the apprenticeship. Wage figures on the program page are labeled as statewide labor-market data, not outcomes of this certificate.
